Approval discipline drives the schedule more than stamping capacity

Size, thickness, base metal, enamel type, plating, post count and placement, backing method, packing format, carton marks, and ship-to country all affect routing, queue position, and inspection criteria. Rush economics favor low-process designs, not just low unit prices

A 30 mm stamped iron soft enamel pin with one post and a butterfly clutch usually moves faster through tooling, enamel fill, baking, plating, post welding, inspection, and packing than a 38 mm zinc alloy die-cast pin with cutouts, deep relief, and two posts. MOQ also behaves differently when the deadline is tight. Production is only half the schedule. Missing ex-factory by one day can shift a shipment from deferred air service to express courier, or from airport handling to an expensive door-to-door rescue move. Budget breakpoints: where total spend changes fastest
For small orders, fixed costs dominate. A simple mold fee of about USD 45 to 90 is common for stamped pins, while more complex die-cast tooling often runs USD 90 to 180 or more depending on size, cutouts, and relief depth. That charge is painful at 100 pieces and far less important at 500 or 1,000 pieces. In practice, moving from 150 pieces to 300 pieces often increases total spend by less than expected because the unit rate drops and freight efficiency improves.
Packaging is the next major breakpoint. Polybag packing is the baseline and usually the right choice for booth giveaways. How to issue a rush RFQ that survives the calendar
Start from the in-hand date, not the event opening date. If the venue receives freight only on weekdays, if a distributor must relabel cartons, or if the sales team needs time to pre-kit inventory across booths or staff groups, the usable production window is shorter than it first appears. A practical schedule only needs four hard milestones: final artwork approval, engineering or digital sample approval, ex-factory date, and final delivery date.
Then send one complete RFQ instead of a moving target. Include finished size in mm, target thickness, base metal if required, enamel type, Pantone references, plating finish, attachment type and position, quantity by SKU, packaging method, destination country, and must-arrive date. If some features are optional, label them as preferred versus mandatory. That lets the supplier quote a primary route and a fallback route instead of making one risky promise built on hidden assumptions.
A useful rush quotation should state at least four things clearly: production lead time counted from final approval, FOB price by quantity tier, explicit assumptions that could change lead time, and recommended freight modes with transit days. Better suppliers will also specify whether lead time is in calendar days or working days, whether weekends count, what local cutoff hour applies for approval release, and whether split shipment is possible.
